Act now to tackle global warming, says U.N. climate report

Act now to tackle global warming

Desperate problems need desperate measures and global warming is indeed a great threat to whole mankind.

The two gloomy reports on global warming by the U.N. has prompted scientists and governments to convene a meeting in Bangkok to draft a plan to tackle global warming. The draft of solutions that is expected at the end of this meeting will be issued on May 4.

U.N. in its first climate panel report says that mankind is to be blamed for causing more than 90 percent global warming. The second report has warned of more short winters, droughts, heat-waves and rising sea levels, which pose a threat to the whole world. As a matter of fact, numerous environmental changes which are being witnessed are attributed to global warming, mild winter and expected draught like situation in Italy is just one of them.

Hans Verolme, director of the WWF’s Global Climate Change Programme said:

It is crystal clear that we can cut emissions to well below today’s levels by shifting from carbon-heavy fuels like coal to clean and efficient energy but if governments fail to act, people will experience the damage, and that goes beyond sterile economic figures.

It’s report also list out solutions such as saying no to non-renewable energy sources and shifting to renewable energies like solar and wind power. The report also encourages more use of nuclear power. The time for buck-passing is long gone and the need of the hour is to have collective efforts if world really wants to tackle the ever growing menace of global warming.
