Pak Tuberculosis Drug Policy Flawed

TB programmes that are meant to educate people about the drugs to be taken during TB, actually propagate development of drug resistant strains. As a result, the TB patients do not react to the existing drugs. While the above flaw continues to mar TB awareness among the people of Lahore, the intellectual and economic poverty makes Pakistanis more vulnerable to this disease.
Reports points out that 1.5 million people are suffering from tuberculosis in Pakistan, with fresh additions of 210,000 cases every year. King Edward College’s Dr. Shamshad Rasool has warned that the situation is rewinding itself to the past days when the only treatment available was isolation that is no treatment unless the situation appropriates to political will.
