Similar to the microblogging sensation, Twitter, organizations can join social networking websites to promote and advertise their product/services to consumers. Social networking websites allows greater interaction for the consumer as they can view a larger selection of photos, are able to comment and can receive more information about the company. Organizations are also able to target a large international number of individuals. A recent UK report reveals that social networking sites accounted for 11.6% of all UK Internet visits during September, representing a year on year growth of 4.3%. Within the social networks and forums category, the three dominant players are Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Those three combined account for 75% of all visits to the category.
