Save the Lundy Island

For the 26 people who live and work on Lundy Island, the road ahead might seem a little difficult, both literally and metaphorically. The only beach road that connects to the top of this four and a half kilometer long and a kilometer wide island is in danger due to tough weather conditions.

Although a plan has been formulated to resurrect this steep road but experts believe that high sea and enormous rains are going to be the biggest hurdle.

A complete treat for the eyes, Lundy Island are located in the southwest of England, famous for its history, geography, wildlife, archeology and lighthouses. Composed mostly of granite, it has been declared tenth greatest natural wonder in Britain. The unique natural diversity is widespread. Apart form the puffins, its residents are many; Soay sheep, pygmy shrew, tiger moths and Silka deer, names unfamiliar to common ears. England’s only statutory Marine nature reserve, the cliffs are house to cetacean folk and Grey seal. This visitor’s paradise has hidden thirty seven sea caves in its kitty.

The future of this natural beauty lies in the repair of the beach road. Not just the appeal of £250,000 but enormous effort and will power is required to get the future rolling.
