‘Project Surya to mitigate the effects of global warming and air pollution by cooking with renewable sources’
Professor Veerabhadran Ramathan is bringing you the solar powered cooker that will help the environment. Project Surya is a concept project that helps in mitigating the effects of air pollution and global warming by cooking with renewable resources. The project will deploy inexpensive solar and other energy efficient cookers in rural India that in turn will help in reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide and element carbon are the two main agents of global warming; therefore the main aim of the project is to lower down the future emissions of carbon dioxide and the element carbon. The project includes an ingenious idea of monitoring pollution levels through the distribution of cell phones, loaded with GPS and an accelerometer, to measure the daily activities and the daily air quality through an association with special filters and a bluetooth temperature sensor, installed in the kitchen area.
Project Surya is indeed a very cost effective project and a very useful one for the world’s poor. Almost half the world’s population, and 75 percent of households in India, use bio-fuel and biomass and other resources to prepare their food. Project Surya will help in avoiding this and make way for a greener future.
