Prioritize yourself: 9 Health conditions new moms shouldn’t ignore

As a mom, have you ignored the warning signs your body has been sending you? Do you get menstrual cramps, stomach aches, breathlessness, stress, anxiety-attacks? If yes, then you must know that you are ignoring yourself and pushing your health to the brink. Do not take chances with your health. Treat your symptoms with caution. Recognize them and attend to them. Here are some health symptoms you shouldn’t ignore.

1. Pain while having sex

Vaginal dryness causes pain during sex. The causes of vaginal dryness are low estrogen hormone levels in the body. This is experienced during childbirth or when lactating. Applying lubricants such as KY Jelly helps reduce the dryness to a good extent. Vaginal dryness is also caused due to lack of sexual excitement. Lack of intimacy and discord in the relationship causes this. Self-help or seeking external counseling can help this situation. Yeast infection causes vaginal dryness too. Seeking a doctor’s advice and applying anti-fungal ointment can cure this. Even if all these conditions are not present, and yet the pain during intercourse persists, then there could be a developing tumor. Pelvic examinations will reveal the problem.

2. Tiredness

Tiredness is all right if it has been a hectic day. But frequent and un-exerted tiredness may need a medical look-up. Fatigue is caused by lack of nutrition. Having a baby creates a lot of nutritional deficit in the body. To bridge the gap is sometimes tough. Fatigue can also be caused by malfunctioning thyroid gland. Thyroid regulates metabolism. A metabolic decline could be caused by thyroid problem. A thyroid stimulating hormone test determines the condition of your thyroid. There are two types of thyroid problems – hyper and hypo thyroidism. Hyper-thryroidism creates anxiety, heavy-bleeding periods, and diarrhea. Hypo-thyroidism creates weight-gain, tiredness, and loss of bowel movement.

3. Excessive thirst

Excessive thirst without precedence of any physical activity could be an indicator of type 2 diabetes. The symptoms of type 2 diabetes are excessive thirst, frequent urination, and high blood-sugar levels. Pregnancy causes obesity and obesity creates diabetes condition. Weight-gain during pregnancy is common. But persistence of it even after child-birth even with exercise is problematic. Diabetes needs early treatment. Otherwise, it creates complications for the heart and kidney.

4. Extraneous mole growth

One of the symptoms of skin cancer is formation of a growing mole. Dark moles are dismissed off as keratosis. But pills and patches taken/applied during pregnancy may make moles darker. Ignoring such moles could cause it to spread to lymph nodes. If treated initially, the success rate is more than ninety percent. Moles with changing textures are suspicious. Immediate consultation with the doctor should be taken.

5. Breathlessness

Shortness of breath, feeling dizzy, tiredness, and anxiety are impending signs of anemia. After childbirth, anemia can possibly come about. Lack of hemoglobin characterizes this condition. This means there are lesser red blood cells. Anemia is also caused by lack of iron in the body. Loss of blood causes loss of red blood cells. Self-help remedies include enriching the diet with iron-rich food, eating vegetables and fruits and physician-advised nutritional supplements. Red meat is an excellent source of iron and highly advised for anemic people. But if the patient is already obese other natural food-sources like dark greens, beans, iron-rich cereals can be taken.

6. Stomach enlargement sensation

After child-birth, moms may have bloated stomachs after eating a meal. Constant bloatedness could be due to ulcer or bowel problems. Chronic conditions may be caused by ovarian cancer. A pelvic examination or a pap test can reveal the condition.

7. Emotional instability

Childbirth creates a lot of emotional turmoil. Self-help remedies like having eight hours uninterrupted sleep, drinking plenty of water, eating on time, and doing light exercise will reduce emotional instability.

8. Anxiety attacks

After childbirth, the body goes through a lot of hormonal changes. Such changes create a lot of stress and anxiety. Anxiety is also caused during pregnancy when the mom-to-be is worried about several aspects related to the baby and child birth. This process spills over to the period after child birth as well. The only way to resolve anxiety attacks is to meditate, and meet with lots of people you like.

9. Unprovoked anger

Moms need time to get adjusted to the routine of rearing children. This may take time. It is common to get angry at near and dear ones. Making the transition to a mom and staying as one, is a test of patience. Sometimes moms do lose it. To control anger, sharing of responsibilities can lighten the burden, and also the anger. Anger management classes are also a good way to bring down temper levels.
