Pest Hazard Due To Global Warming

One of the many harmful effects of global warming is the distorted climate cycle. global
Hurricanes and storms are becoming worse as the ocean is getting warmer and abrupt weather changes are happening.

Of late the gardens in Britain are being infested by a large number of slugs. The peculiar combination of a mild winter and damp, warm summer has created ideal conditions for the slug. There population is increasing at an alarming rate.

Usually frosty winters and dry summers keep the slug population down. However, global warming has helped provide perfect conditions for them to thrive. Big black slugs are now cited not only in the countryside but also in the town and city gardens.

This has posed a serious threat as already the large amount of carbon dioxide emission in the environment is harming the crops, and now these thriving slugs will further destroy crops. Studies show that that without changes in the way crop is planted; future yields from the same land will drop with increasing carbon dioxide levels. This coupled with slugs is very harmful for most of the crops especially potatoes. One of the varieties of slugs is the keel slug, tandonia budapestensist, which is capable of destroying entire crops.

It is high time that each one of us puts in a conscious effort to bring down the greenhouse effect. For starters we should plant trees and recycle paper wherever possible so that felling of trees is reduced .Further we should efficiently utilize available energy sources and conserve it to the maximum extend possible. On a global scale countries should investing in and use renewable energy sources like wind, solar, geothermal and bioenergy. What is now a pest menace can magnify into more alarming problems, hence let us put our foot down now and start acting.
