MIT converts FEMA trailers into vertical and mobile community garden

FEMA trailers are temporary manufactured houses given to the victims of hurricane Katrina and Rita. One such infamous FEMA trailer named ‘Armadillo’ was converted by MIT students and faculty into a vertical and mobile community garden. Armadillo will act as a “mobile classroom” in California to combine community garden with art classes. Outside the Armadillo, a two-liter bottle planting system is hung from “vertical planting walls” which give it an eye catching look.

On June 13, Side Street Projects will start their exciting 6,500 mile cross country journey from Pasadena to Boston to link the public art and public service together. The journey will help to find issues the public is facing due to art and science, food production, horticulture, environmental justice and sustainability.

In future let’s hope for many such projects, which can be utilized from dumped things rather throwing them away and causing problems.
