‘Uncontacted tribes may disappear in three years’

Indigenous people are the key to rain forest conservation. The rainforests have been inhabited by various tribes for over thousands of years. The forest is their primary source of livelihood and they share an inexplicable bond with it. However, there are now concerns about some unncontacted tribes disappearing owing to continuous logging. A Brazilian expert foresees that uncontacted tribes will disappear in three years.

The Brazilian expert has warned the administration that the uncontacted tribes in the extreme remote corners of the Peruvian Amazon could disappear within three years if nothing is done to protect them. The illegal loggers have invaded the Indians’ land which in turn is threatening the existence of the uncontacted tribes.

The rights of the uncontacted tribes should be recognized to save them from extinction. The government should take immediate steps for removing loggers who have invaded the Indians’ land and “forcing first contact” with them. The tribes can help in rainforest conservation because they possess intimate knowledge about the forests. Logging is a danger not only to the existence of these tribes, but also to the environment. The priority should be to provide protection to these tribes, which in turn would contribute towards protecting the earth.
