Common sleep disturbances during pregnancy

Pregnancy brings along some issues for to be mothers. There are physical changes and sensations that are unique to a pregnant lady. Do not be taken aback by these changes. These are natural and happen with everyone. You just have to be in control of yourself and realize that all’s well. You may experience headache or the urge to pee frequently. Pregnant women often feel nauseated during the first trimester. At times like this, it is important that you know about these problem well in advance. Often, pregnancy brings sleep disturbances in the first trimester. It is important to work on the following mentioned tips to ensure that your pregnancy period is a happy time and that you would love to remember it afterwards.

1. You need to nap

Pregnancy increases the level of progesterone in the blood. Progesterone is, basically, a female hormone that is released by the ovary during pregnancy. It controls the reproductive cycle in the females. High level of progesterone hormone when released in blood aggravates your inclination to sleep. Hence, you may feel sleepy during the day when you are pregnant. So do not worry; it is perfectly fine. But the high level of progesterone comes with its own set of problems. It makes you feel highly fatigued, so you may feel like you are running down on energy. Also, it may hinder your sleep at night. This may make you feel more sleepy during the day. There is nothing much you can do about it. It is a hormone that is released within the body. It should not be inhibited because it regulates the reproductive cycle. Hence, all you can do is find opportunities to take a nap whenever possible.

2. You have trouble getting comfy

Pregnancy period brings in a lot of major physical changes in your body. The breasts become tender and make it uneasy for you to sleep on your stomach. It is also not advisable to sleep on your stomach during pregnancy. Try and develop the habit of sleeping on either on your left or right side. There is also a benefit of sleeping on your left side. It allows proper flow of blood and nutrients to the fetus. It also helps in flushing out toxic waste out of your body, keeping you and your baby safe.

3. You have a constant need to pee

The uterus is situated in proximity to your urinary bladder. During pregnancy, since the uterus swells, it presses against the bladder, sending you an urge to pee often. Running to the bathroom often during the night may make you feel uncomfortable and may also disturb your sleep. Hence, take in as much fluid as you can during the day and cut down on fluid intake in the evening. This should help decrease your discomfort considerably.
