5 Tips to help your child like physical education

Few kids do not have interest in involving themselves in any physical activity and often laze around. If your kid is among this category of kids, then you need to play a very important role to help your kid overcome this problem. If a kid does not take much part in the physical activities, this can drive him/her away from the enthusiastic peer group. This can make the kid feel dejected and depressed. It is important to be aware of the benefits of the PE class and good physical activity helps to keep your child fit and healthy. However, you must ensure that your kid enjoys the PE rather than seeing it as a burden or an obligation. We have put together a list of simple tips to help your child grasp that necessary interest in Physical Education.

1. Dress your kid properly as per the outdoor requirement and season

Many kids do not want to indulge themselves in outdoor activities or in physical education due to improper dressing. Dress can even include shoes. Any uncomfortable clothing like tight top or pants or tight or loose shoes can also make the kids uneasy to participate in activities like jumping or climbing. Unable to find the reason, they tend to isolate themselves from the rest. Ensure to dress your child properly and make him/her feel comfortable. Take special care during winters, specially when it is snowing.

2. Take up with school authorities

Growing kids tend to be more uncomfortable in certain situations and shy away to face them One of them includes taking shower in front of everyone after PE. As a parent, talk to your kid and find more about the facilities available in the school. If you feel there is not enough privacy, raise this issue in parent-teacher meetings. Ask the school authorities to install shower curtains for the kids or provide private dressing rooms. Talk to other parents and gain their support. Once the school approves your suggestion, your kid would no longer feel embarrassed and would not avoid PE.

3. Do not allow the kids to opt for different options

Some schools may not make the PE class as obligatory and can allow the kids to opt for other classes such as music or dance or any other. Encourage your kid to take up PE and do not let him/her opt for other classes. Make your kid understand the importance of a fit body and how it is possible to achieve that only through attending PE class.Talk to your kid about the importance of physical education and how they are benefited with this education. Explain the importance of healthy body that supports a healthy mind. Make them understand how a right decision supports them to have a bright career ahead.

4. Take initiative to make physical education more fun filled

If you want your kid to get involved in physical education, and enjoy it, try to get him/her involved in other physical activities like in-line skating and skateboarding or tennis or other sports outside school hours. Show them the path of enjoyment of playing games and exercising. Make it more like a fun activity so that they can compare and realize the fun of PE class.

5. Understand your child’s concern

Try to understand your kid’s concern. Talk to them openly and find out the real reason why they are disinterested. Often children may often get physically, verbally, and socially bullied in the physical education. This makes them shy away and avoid PE all together. If required, talk to the PE teacher or even the principal and resolve the problem.
