Human’s inner ear inspired Cochlea horn speakers

Founded in 2008 by Marja Salaspuro and Sergio Davila, interdisciplinary studio Vivencia specializes in product design, furniture and spaces. The latest product Sergio Davila is working on, in collaboration with designer Rodolfo Samperio, is a horn speaker with a resonance system that copies the human inner ear resonance. The inner ear is an “active amplifier” that enhances the audio waves and reproduces them all through the entire ear system. Christened Cochlea (meaning the auditory portion of the inner ear), the hi-fi system is intended to come in a clear acrylic box, with the internal structure produced in 3D printer.

The Cochlea speakers were designed with an idea for enhancing the bass vibration in a speaker. The horn speakers connect to a central STA540 power amplifier IC unit. Currently, they are testing the prototype for the Cochlea speakers.
