4 Good Habits That Most Healthy People Tend to Have

4 Habits of Healthy People

You just scheduled your move with Black Tie Moving and are ready to start a new chapter in your life! While change is exciting, it can also be scary and hard to know where to start. You want this move to kickstart your journey to living a healthier lifestyle.

What better way to learn how to be healthier than adopting the habits of those who already live that lifestyle? Here are 4 habits of healthy people.

1.   Quality Sleep

We all know by now that quality sleep is one of the most important functions of maintaining overall health. After all, sleep directly affects our brain function, physical health, and mental wellbeing. This is why making sure adequate and quality sleep is a common habit of healthy people.

Quality sleep isn’t always easy to get with our busy lives and the temptation of electronics. However, it’s vital that you dedicate at least 7 hours of rest each night. Some tips for a healthy sleep lifestyle would be to shut off electronics before bed, limit alcohol and caffeine intake in the evening, and provide yourself with optimal sleeping conditions.

2.   Physical Activity

You don’t have to be a marathon runner or an intense athlete to be healthy. But this doesn’t mean that physical activity isn’t a habit of healthy people. In order to maintain both physical and mental health, it’s important that you fit some type of physical activity into your daily routine.

Regular walks, yoga, dancing, and gym days could all be considered an adequate form of exercise. It’s important that you pick a physical activity that you enjoy, as this will make it more likely you’ll keep up with it. You should aim for at least 20 minutes a day dedicated towards physical activity. Keep in mind, this could look different each day! One day you may want to walk and the other you may join friends for a pickleball match. Either way, just make sure you’re moving your body a little every day!

3.   Healthy Diet

Fast food and frozen dinners make it challenging to eat healthy. This is why the obesity rate continues to climb in the United States. A habit of healthy people is that they don’t fall to the temptation of easy and convenient meals. Instead, they properly prepare themselves to eat well throughout the week.

A healthy diet consists of an adequate number of both macronutrients (proteins, carbs, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). You want to make sure your diet is balanced. An easy way to do this is to plan your meals ahead. It’s much more likely you’ll eat healthy if you already have your food prepared. Cook up some chicken, vegetables, and rice that will last throughout the week. Find what foods you enjoy that are healthy for you and prepare them ahead of time.

4.   Time for Introspection

You don’t have to spend hours a day meditating to gain some insight into how you’re feeling and thinking. Instead, healthy people have formed the habit of making just a little time for introspection a regular occurrence. Introspection takes many forms and varies from person to person.

Some common introspection habits of healthy people are journaling, meditating, and allowing time away from social media or any distractions. Giving yourself a safe, quiet place to observe how you’re feeling internally is a way to help you reconnect with yourself. In turn, you’re much more likely to make positive, healthy decisions throughout your day.
