obesityWe have seven obesity myths here. Post junk food ad media hullabaloo now again all are awaken with the issue. I have posted Top 7 Junk Food ad I dislike and while looking for more info on the matter I found this one, an epidemic of obesity myths took me by surprise.

This study from Consumer Freedom is questioning the obesity hypes like

1. Obesity kills 40,000 Americans a year
2. It costs $117 billion
3. 64% of Americans are overweight or obese.

The Body feels these statistics are overly exaggerated by the $40 billion weight loss industry and contrary to popular belief over weight actually is a result of physical inactivity.

former Editor in Chief of The New England Journal of Medicine points out:

‘Physicians have been extensively involved with the pharmaceutical industry, especially opinion leaders and those in the high ranks of academia. The involvement was in many instances quite deep. It involved consulting, service on speaker’s bureaus, and service on advisory boards. And at the same time some of these financially conflicted individuals were producing obesity materials, lectures,
and obesity articles in major journals.’

The 7 myths

1.Obesity Kills 400,000 Americans a Year
2.You Can’t Be Overweight and Healthy
3.Obesity Is a Disease
4.Overeating Is the Primary Cause of Obesity
5.Soda Causes Childhood Obesity
6. 64 Percent of Americans Are Overweight or Obese
7. Obesity Costs the U.S. Economy $117 Billion Annually

There is no reason to buy a lame media propaganda like these. Author comments some see dollar signs where the rest of us see dinner.
