A broadband internet service provider, Bulldog, recently came under intense criticism by the advertisement watchdog after receiving complaints fro disgruntled consumers. The Advertising Standards Authority has leveled misleading as the ad by Bulldog claiming customers could get up to 8 meg broadband. Though in reality, most of the customers were getting much slower service.

The advertisement campaign claimed that the users get up to 8 meg broadband for only £15.50 a month. Later on, a rival service provider ntl complained that the ad was misleading as most of the people would not be able get the quoted speed.

On the other hand, Bulldog claimed that around half of its customers using this particular service achieved speeds of at least 6 Mbps. However, ASA has dismissed the claim on the ground that if speed fell below 6 Mbps means degradation of quality of services and the term ‘up to’ used was not an adequate qualifier.
