


The San Francisco Department of Public Health has launched this advertisement campaign to create awareness regarding AIDS with specifically targeting gay community. The campaign aims at encouraging gays to go under HIV tests and disclose their status of being HIV positive or negative before entering into intimate relationship. The advertisement showing men involved in intimate activities while having status printed on them.
This campaign had triggered controversy in San Francisco over the use of the term ‘status sorting’ message that has offended many people. The campaign has included print ads, billboards, wallscapes, bus shelters, subway posters, stickers, tattoos, postcards, magnets, and a website. The punch line of the campaign reads, ‘every gay man should know his status’. The campaign was designed by Better World Advertising.
