A growing number of Muslim countries are discovering the benefits of medical tourism. That’s why in the Second International Conference on Health Tourism in Iran, the participants agreed to set up a regional network to facilitate medical tourism in Muslim countries.

According to the speakers of the two-day meeting, being held in Mashhad in north east Iran, the benefits could be even larger if this rapidly-growing practice of travelling across international borders to obtain health care is done within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has 57 member states and is the largest international association after the United Nations. A few countries with significant Muslim populations, such as Russia and Thailand, also sit as Observer States.
