Thanksgiving day resembles a period of time for the people to express their thanks for what they have. It is a holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. In 1863 during the civil war, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of Thanksgiving and since it became an official Federal holiday. Also, some reports explains that the original Thanksgiving proclamation was signed by George Washington.

Thanksgiving day moves in a traditional way, where families and friends assemble together for a special meal. Most often the meal consists of stuffing, turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, potatoes, pumpkin pie and vegetables. Parades also takes place in some cities during the period of Thanksgiving day. And some parades among them marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Thanksgiving day is a special season for the friends and families to plan their outings and trips because of the four-day weekend. At the same time, it marks the busiest periods in the USA to travel because there is huge crowd along with the tight congestion. Busy foot ball games and parades that occur at some of the areas causes interruption to the local traffic.

Thanksgiving day marks the major holidays in the year, as the period is close with Christmas and Newyear, it points a holiday season. Most of the offices, businesses, universities, schools and other organisations are closed on Thanksgiving day. The employees of many offices and organisations are allowed to enjoy the four-day weekend hence the offices and businesses are closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving day. As like in the regular way, public transport system do not work as per the schedule.

The event Thanksgiving day which is now-a-days celebrated by Americans was celebrated by the pilgrims after the first harvest in the year 1621. It was noted with a feast that lasted for three days and it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.

There are reports that the first Thanksgiving Day was observed in the city of El Paso, Texas in the year 1598. Another event was also held in the year 1619 in the Virginia Colony but Americans commonly subject the Thanksgiving holiday to a celebration that got held in the year 1621 at the Plymouth Plantation, which mark the harvest feast after a successful growing season. Since then Autumn or early winter feasts continued in the later years, initially it is observed as an  impromptu religious observance but later it became a civil tradition. How ever, they celebrated the first Thanksgiving day in 1963, which marked with giving thanks for the rain that ended a drought. These previous thanksgiving mostly followed by the observation of special church service, rather than concentrating on the feast.

In the next half of the 1600s, after the every harvest Thanksgiving has became very common, and it is started to become like an annual event. `Depending on the communities and places, Thanksgiving day is held on different days and few places celebrate it for more than one time in an year.
