Our late-twenties is the time when most of us are done with our good old college days and have stepped our foot in the professional world. We have new responsibilities and new experiences. We are definitely not as carefree as we used to be and nor do we have that leisure time in our hands that we used to enjoy as teens. But then again for most of us, there are no major responsibilities upon us yet, we still have time to start our own families.
The late-twenties is the best time for you to incorporate healthy habits in your otherwise junk infused beer pong lifestyle.
You have time to explore yourself and change your lifestyle for the good. You are still young and not very set with your ways, it will be easier for you to adapt to healthy habits and change your unhealthy lifestyle before it starts showing it’s notorious effects on your health.
Now is the time to redesign your life that will keep you healthy and happy for years to come.
Because let’s be honest, we are not getting any younger and with our not so great everyday routine, we are aging faster.
There are so many health problems that have cropped up and depression is hitting us like a storm, according to a report by WHO (World Health Organization) India is the sixth most depressed country in the world.
So now that the reality of our situation has hit us hard, let us incorporate some healthy habits into our daily routine while the situation is still in our hands.
1) Exercise
Did you realize that your metabolism is not your best friend anymore? It was a pretty hard fact for me to digest too ( see what I did there?). Well, a piece of honest advice for you in your 20s is to inculcate exercising as a part of your daily routine.
Exercising has numerous health benefits, and the earlier you start, the better the results.
Don’t limit your exercise routine to gyming every day. Here is your chance to mix the need to exercise with something that makes you happy.
Love playing football? Join the football club. Want to learn a new sport? Now is your time. If dancing is what excites you, then go ahead and dance like there’s no tomorrow. Practice yoga, go for a run, join a hiking group. The options are endless, all you have to do is decide what suits you the best and start.
2) Check Your Diet
We have started consuming unhealthy amounts of junk food on a daily basis. The benefits of avoiding junk food and other food loaded with sugar is just not limited to weight control.
Consuming junk food is linked to several serious health conditions. Diseases like cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, and many other heart conditions have started affecting people at a very young age. People have started falling more and more sick, and studies have linked consuming unhealthy food to falling into depression.
So eat the vegetables that you have so dearly hated all your life. Eat home-cooked food often. Include more green and leafy vegetables in your diet. Make sure you are getting a sufficient dose of the required nutrients.
3) Get Your Beauty Sleep
I can’t stress this enough. Your body needs to rest, and it needs to rest at the right time. Falling into a healthy sleep routine can get difficult. To help ease it you can try out different routines that can help you fall asleep faster.
One way to get a good night’s sleep is to disconnect yourself from the digital world. Put your cellphone away and you can use this time to meditate or do some reading. Whatever helps your mind relax.
Sleep deprivation can cause multiple health disorders. Irritation, anxiety, nervous breakdown, etc. So do your body a favor and form a good rhythmic pattern.
4) Give It Back To The Society
Doing social work not only feels good, but it also shapes your personality. Helping others and doing a selfless deed can actually make you happy and make you feel good about yourself. You can volunteer at your neighborhood orphanage or old-age home. You can join a NGO or even become part of the campaigns that keep on happening for social awareness.
Doing social work will increase your sense of self and can also make you happier. It gives you a sense of purpose and also a chance to be a part of something greater than you.
5) Pick Up A Creative Hobby
You don’t have to be good at something to pursue it as a hobby. Adding a daily dose of creative activity to your daily routine can actually be a great way to burst the stress. They also help your brain stay active which will make you smarter.
A few hobbies like drawing and painting can keep you in touch with your inner child. Hobbies like writing is also a very healthy way to express your emotions. Also if your work doesn’t involve using much of your creative side of the brain, then doing something creative can be a healthy break for your brain.
Basically, now is the time to carve your life, habits that you form now will shape the coming years of your life.
It gets difficult to break unhealthy patterns of your lifestyle at a later stage of your life, firstly because you will be burdened with many more responsibilities and secondly habits that have stick to you for so long will get more difficult to break from.
Also, the long span of an unhealthy lifestyle would have already shown its ill effects on your health. So make your resolution today and embrace these habits into your everyday life so that your coming years are spent with good health and a happy mind.
