As much as it sounds scary, the title seems to be something that will be a reality soon. Once regarded as the backbone for Internet searches, it can now be said to be the backbone of our entire lives. Without realizing, we are more and more ready to voluntarily give up information to the company by means of our Web searches, photos, Gmail messages, and much more. This was the reaction felt by many, who attended the I/O developers’ conference. Through this conference, it has become more apparent that unless millions and millions of people instantly change their mind and begin using alternative technology tools, we could be letting Google dominate our lives, and the world as well.
As more and more product updates are made available, every feature, virtual service or upgrade increasingly shows that Google is no longer just the company that allows you to search information on the Internet. It is doing far more than that and entering into every aspect of our digital, private and personal lives at a scarily fast rate. This is especially apparent in the feature called Google Now. This is a voice-powered personal assistant which was launched on phones operating on Android. It was made very clear that Google is no longer seeing itself as a company which is mainly focused on search engine. Google Now is a multi-faceted product, which is almost dream-like. It is more like an intelligent machine which is able to comprehend natural language as well as real-world context.
Google Now acts life-like and will scan email and notify you of packages which will arrive. The virtual assistant will also report scores for sports and teams that you have searched for. If you have searched stock prices before, the assistant will know which stock prices to show you. It can also scour through your calendar to remind you of appointments that you might have. Such information is delivered to you without having to even ask for it. This feature has now been introduced to iPhones and iPads.
It is expected that this app will be introduced to even desktop computers if users use Chrome Web browser. With the introduction of the proposed Google Glass, Google Now will be made available on your face. Now, is this scary or what! Uploading photos online is something we all do on a regular basis. Even this will be scanned by Google. Through this, it will get an understanding of what people in your photos look like and will group them into albums automatically. Although magical sounding, it sure sounds creepy and invasive.
From what has been discussed, it seems like Google indeed as a prominent presence in our lives on a daily basis.
