Entrepreneurship is all about taking right decisions that could boost the overall financial and organizational health of any business. Aside from decision-making, proper planning also plays a pivotal role in ensuring that all respective components of a business setup work the way they are supposed to. When businesspersons and managers compromise with any of these abovementioned prerequisites, what follows is unmanageable organizational lethargy and non-performance of the entire business setup.
For newbie entrepreneurs, things get worse when such a situation arises since they are not well versed with the art of running a business. Even those who are considering expanding their businesses feel depressed when the list of pending tasks goes beyond their manageable limits. Under such circumstances, one needs to stick to a robust and dependable action plan. We can further divide an action plan into specific tasks and prioritize them accordingly. My friends, colleagues, associates and others keep coming to me with their problems related to efficient task management.
Just recently, one of my friends who was facing some serious troubles in his business came to me with his problem. Even though he is an established entrepreneur, still he was a bit confused about his plan to expand his business since he, somehow, was apprehensive about task management. Things were falling apart for him as he wanted to control all of his business properties but had no solid action-plan to do that, which further made the entire situation pathetic and quite dilemmatic for him.
Deal
There is no harm in accepting the truth that none of us is a superhuman. Therefore, when we expect to do everything on our own, we are actually doing gross injustice to our capabilities. When running a business or executing a specific plan, we should categorize our tasks into three broad categories. First, we should create a list of tasks that we can do ourselves with ease and confidence. We need to understand what we are best at and what part of our action plan requires our direct involvement. Accordingly, a businessperson should not bury himself under endless pieces of paper or too many assignments; instead, he should target only those that are doable for him and do not require much of his time.
Delegate
Should we channelize our efforts in doing insignificant and paltry things or focus on planning, expanding, staffing, directing, coordinating, and handling the financial aspect of our business? Well, you would agree to the fact that delegating some of your responsibilities to your subordinates or colleagues is sure to help you channelize your core strengths to core responsibilities only and hence, increase your productivity as well. Micromanagement sometimes spoils the very essence of a cause, responsibility or an assignment. On the other hand, if you can find the right people for things they are adept in, your business initiatives would reap the desired results for sure.
Discard
When you seriously don’t have too many options, the best way to come out of the quandary is to discard that particular work. Then again, one should not think about discarding or dumping an assignment until s/he has failed at least once in that particular task. Failure allows entrepreneurs to learn from their mistakes and take stringent actions to avoid those mistakes in future. Instead of wasting your precious time and hard work on something unmanageable, it is in your best interest to discard that task but not before you have devised some other solution for that problem.
Professionals who are organized in their approach find it easier to do different tasks with extreme ease, precision and confidence as compared to those who cannot prioritize their tasks in an efficient manner. After all, a reckless and a devil-may-care attitude leads to chaos, clumsiness and disorganization, which, in the end, has its negative repercussions on the financial health and overall work environment of any business. Therefore, it is in the best interest of professionals and managers to be organized, practical, resourceful and imaginative when it comes to managing their pending tasks. To make things simple, one should look for ways to channelize his resources so that he or she could reduce his burden and realize more efficiency.
