Vega Islands, Norway

 

Located in Norway, Vega Islands are an archipelago of about 6,500 islands. The islands lie near to the south of the Arctic Circle. UNESCO designated it as World Heritage Site in 2004. The island includes fishing villages, warehouses, eider houses, beacons, lighthouse, and quays. The islands are exposed to landscape of sea and land that has many low and treeless islands. Over 50 islands are inhabited permanently or seasonally.  Agriculture and farming serve as the main economy of the residents of the island.

The islands are a famous destination for bird watching. Various activities like hiking or cycling are also offered. Vega Islands include an E-house, a museum, and documentation center that has information about the tradition of keeping the eider ducks as pets. The best time to visit the island is during the time from June to August. Activities like fishing can be done with the locals.
