Mountain Roraima, Guyana

Mountain Roraima also known as Tepuy Roraima and Cerro Roraima is the highest chain of tepui plateau in South America. It was first discovered by an English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh in 1596. The mountain consists of cliffs rising at the height of 400 meters and serves as center point for Guyana, Brazil and Venezuela.

The highest point of the mountain is Maverick Rock that is at the height of 2,810 meters at the south end of the plateau. The flora on the mountain comprises of Campanula, Pitcher plants and Rapatea that is rare to be found anywhere else in the world. Its entire surface is bare sandstone and only few bushes and algae are found due to continuous rainfall almost all around the year. Many varieties of fauna are also found such as the Roraima Bush Toad that belongs to species of toad. Due to moist air and tropical heat, heavy rain clouds are created, which causes frequent rainfall that affects the flora and fauna found on the mountain. Activities like river crossing, mountain climbing can be done. The mountain is subjected to a range of myths, as told by the local population.
