Mountain Entoto, Ethiopia

Mount Entoto is located in the city of Addis Ababa, Ehtiopia and is known as the highest mountain peak. Its height is 3,200 meters above sea level. It includes a number of churches such as Saint Raguel and Saint Mary. It is also known as a historical place where Emperor Menelik II built his palace when he found Addis Ababa. Entoto Marym Church along with a museum has several antique pieces belonging to the religious and historical times.

A wide vegetation of eucalyptus is found that were brought from Australia during the rule of Menelik II and this eucalyptus vegetation is sometimes also known as the “lung of Addis Ababa”. The forest wood is used as a firewood and was the only material used in the construction of buildings. Currently, the Ethiopian Heritage trust, which is a non-profit and non-governmental organization, is working on changing a part of mountain to a natural park. To the northeastern part of Addis Ababa Lies the Entoto Natural Park covering 1,300 hectares of the southeastern slopes of Mt. Entoto.
