Mayumba National Park

Mayumba National Park is placed in the southwestern parts of Gabon. The park lies between the borders of Mayumba and the Congo. Gabon’s late President, Omar Bongo Ondimba, created a network of thirteen national parks in 2002. Out of 13 national parks, only Mayumba National Park is responsible for the conservation of marine life.

The total area covered under the park is approximately 870 square kilometers. The park offer sandy beaches, tidal lagoons, eye-pleasing scenery, different species of aquatic and mammals. The area provide shelter to numerous terrestrial animals such as gorillas, chimpanzees, forest elephants, buffalo, leopards, crocodiles, hippos, antelopes and several monkeys species. Marine life includes dolphins, sharks, migrating humpback whales and many more.

Mayumba National Park serves as an important breeding ground for leatherback turtles in the world. Each year nearly 550 female turtle visit the place between November and April. The main aim behind creating the park was to protect and conserve this endangered species. The site is loaded with many attractions, which makes the park best suited for nature lovers.
