Levera National Park, Grenada

Levera National Park was established in 1992 and is situated at the northern end of the Grenada Island about three hours from St. Ptrick. The park aims to preserve unspoiled marine areas and rainforests. Various islands can be viewed from the park such as Green Island, Sandy Island and the cone shaped Sugar Loaf Island.

The park comprises of dense mountainous rainforest in the interior and costal ecosystems. The flora found includes extensive mangrove swamp. A variety of birds can be observed in the park that consists of herons, Magnificent Frigatebirds, brilliant scarlet ibis, Caribbean coot, common gallinule and blue winged teal. Apart from this, the Levara beach lying in the park is the nesting ground for leatherback sea turtles that fall under the category of endangered species. Various coral reefs are found in the island and are home to many exotic tropical fish and lobsters that shelter under sea grass. Bathway Beach lays to the south of Levara Beachis, which is the favorites spot for the visitors as compared to Levara Beach. Activities like scuba diving and swimming can also be done.
