La Tigra National Park

The La Tigra National Park is located near the capital of Honduras. Originally the park was established as a reserve in 1952, later in 1980 it became very first national park. The park covers around 23,571 hectares, and reaching altitudes of 2270 meters. Before being a protected area, the areas were deforested, but still have an abundance of excellent features well worth exploring. The high altitude of park holds many areas of cloud forest covering mountaintops that contains an array of plant life, including lianas, vines, bromeliads, ferns, and Mosses.

The La Tigra National Park is a home to arid broadleaf forest and highland forest. Further, wide sections of mammals including ocelots, pumas, peccaries, white tailed deer, armadillos, opossums, and agoutis. The reason behind the popularity of La Tigra is its extensive and well-maintained trail system that makes it easily accessible for visitors. Some of the paths are comfortable enough for families and children to walk, and for others who are planning to hike paths range in difficulty. Visitors can get there in a regular vehicle. The road ends at the visitor’s center, where you can get the information on the different trails, general information, and maps.
