How China took over the tourism market

Well, the premise of this article is not to highlight the fact that China, as a country has become the biggest tourist attraction for tourists from across the world. On the contrary, it seeks to find out how the Chinese have now become the one of the most widely travelled people and continue to spend astronomical sums as a nation on tourism and travelling. The world has gone through a lot since the global economic meltdown of 2008 as incomes diminished dramatically and not only travelling but even eating in restaurants became a rarity in most countries including the United States and Europe. However, a country, which came out of it unscathed, has been China. With surging incomes, the Chinese are spending on travelling and the finer things in life in general like never before.

Although the United States and Germany are, still, close second and third in the global rankings respectively but it is now an undisputed fact that the Chinese are the biggest contributors to the global tourism business. This was revealed by a survey conducted by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and the numbers revealed by them show China as the most potent propeller of the tourism industry with a net yearly spending of 67 billion British ponds which is a dramatic jump from the spending of the Chinese the year before.

Now there are numerous reasons why the Chinese have become the most spendthrift travellers in the planet and the most important of those reasons is quite obviously higher incomes. Since China opened up its economy back in the last century the per capita income of the people of the country have also increased manifold and the surge in per capita income and a strong currency have meant that the people of China can now go anywhere and enjoy themselves to the fullest.

It might be interesting for the reader to know that Russia has also managed to get a high rank on the same rankings. The reader would be aware that Russia opened up its economy pretty recently back in the late 1980s and since then the well being of the people have increased and in turn the disposable incomes as well, as a result Russia now spends 43 billion British pounds a year on tourism and pleasure travel. However, China remains the numero uno for now and seemingly weel settled on their perch for the near future.
