Gunung Lesuer National Park, Indonesia

Gunung Lesuer National Park is located in Sumatra, Indonesia. It was established in 1980 and the total area covered by it is 7,927 Kilometers square, with a majority falling into the region of Sumatra. Forty percent of the park lies mainly in the north side of the Sumatra, 12% of the park lies in the southern half of the Sumatra. The park is one of the two habitats for the Sumatran Orangutans. Other species found in the park are the Sumatran elephant, Sumatran rhinoceros, siamang, mainland serow, leopard cat and samber deer. The best experience while visiting the park is to encounter semi-wild and wild animals in the jungle.

White and black gibbons along with Thomas leaf monkey are also spotted in the jungle. The local people survive on agriculture for their survival. A large number of rubber and oil palm plantations can be seen in the area, and have major contribution to the national economy. The rainforest is immensely diverse and is home to 700 species of animals, 190 reptiles, 320 birds and more than 175 mammals. Threats like deforestation, construction of power plants are unbalancing the eco system.

The park offers various eco tours are arranged for the visitors. Trekking can also be done along with observing various species of animals.
