Fraser Island is considered as the heritage listed island situated along the southern coast of Queensland, Australia. The island is considered as the largest sand island in the world and the largest island on the East Coast of Australia. The vegetation types found on the island are mangrove forests, eucalyptus, peat swamps, and sand dunes.

It is home to a number of species of mammals. It consists of more than 100 fresh water lakes. One of the popular tourist lakes of the island is the Lake Mckenzie with an area of 150 hectares. Lake Wabby is considered as the deepest lake on the island with the depth of 12m and is the least acidic of all.

The climate of the Fraser islands is mild due to the influence of the ocean. The fauna found on the islands are the echidnas, ringtail, brushtail possums, sugar gliders, squirrel gliders, bandicoots, flying foxes, dingoes and swamp wallabies. It is home to 74 different species and 18 species of snakes.

Over 350 distinct species of birds are spotted on the island such as sea eagles, kites, osprey, and peregrine falcon. More than 865 species of flora are found and is the only place where tall rainforest grows.

The island can be reached by a ferry, and four wheel drive vehicle is best suited for travelling around the island. It is famous spot for camping as the island consisting of several camping grounds. Activities like trekking are also available. The island has well developed trek that is 90 kilometer long to enjoy trekking.
