Five most weird spa treatments you might not wish to try

The Fish Exfoliation Treatment

Of course, aging is a natural process and there is no way you can stop it from occurring. You can possibly delay it though with certain body and beauty treatments. However, it’s really surprising (and sometimes pretty ghastly) at times to know what some people would do to remain beautiful.Given below are some so called ‘signature local treatments’ practiced at certain spas that guarantee to give you back your youthful looks. But the beauty that these salons guarantee comes at a price; your strength to control your stomach when you hear the ingredients used for the treatments!

A Moist Hay Bath

Rolling in hay may not exactly be your cup of tea. But that’s what you get at many of the spas and inns located in South Tyrol, Italy. The province is situated in the northern part of the country and is quite famous for one thing; hay bath body treatments.

This therapeutic spa treatment involves wrapping the entire body in bundles and bundles of soaked (or) moist hay. The hay used for the treatment is cut first thing in the morning or evening. The locals claim that the hay obtained at these times of the day would contain ethereal oils essential for the treatment.

The cut grass is then dried. It is then mixed with other plants like mountain arnica, thimble, lady’s mantle and gentian etc. before being used for the treatment. Followers of the moist hay bath treatment swear by its rejuvenating effects. So if you can stand the smell and feel of raw hay (and other plants), go for it!

The Equine Reiki Treatment

According to ancient Japanese traditions, certain practitioners and healers used a technique called Reiki wherein they would pass on their positive energy to their clients via body massages in order to correct certain physical and psychological imbalances in the latter.

The Free Rein Australia Spa seems to have taken after this approach to treat customers suffering from physical and mental disorders. But they don’t employ doctors or healers for the same. The practitioners at this spa are horses who actually massage your body with their snout and mouth.

The 90 acre establishment houses over 12 horses who choose their customers themselves. They roam around the ranch freely, apparently filled with plenty of positive energy just waiting to be harnessed. All you have to do is lie down on a massage bed, wait for one of these creatures to walk over to you and just relax as the so called practitioner searches your body for energy blocks, releases the same and then transfers some of his own positive energy to your body.

The Bird Poo Facial

Victoria Beckham apparently claims that the secret to her everlasting beauty involves a facial using a very sacred ingredient; bird poo (seriously? You got to be kidding me!). Very common in Japan, the bird poo facial (also called the ‘Geisha Facial)uses a special tonic called ‘uguisu no fun’ which is made from the droppings of a unique breed of the nightingale found in Asia (the Japanese Bush Wrabler).

The droppings are dried and powdered and then added to the tonic which users claim, helps to rejuvenate dead skin cells, brighten the skin and give it a natural pearly glow! Enough excuses to try it already?

The Bull Sperm Hair Treatment

If the bird poo facial scored 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 related to the grossest beauty treatments ever, this one really takes the cake and manages to receive a 10 on 10! Using bull sperm to treat your hair? Now that’s totally gross! But some don’t think so!

Hari’s Salon is one of the many places in London that offers what is called a deep conditioning hair treatment using organic bull semen. The refrigerated semen (collected from the Aberdeen-Angus bull) is imported all the way from Scotland, and is mixed with other ingredients like the Iranian katera root.

When applied on the hair, it claims to nourish, smoothen, thicken and moisturize the hair follicles in addition to leaving a lasting shiny effect on the hair after the treatment! No wonder, it is also called the ‘Viagra for Hair’.

The Fish Exfoliation Treatment

The Fish Exfoliation Treatment

Now this is a pretty common body treatment that is offered by plenty of spas around the world. The concept is simple. Just soak your feet (or in some cases, your entire body) in a heated pool as fishes swarm all over them and start chomping on the dead skin cells.

The fish used for this procedure belong to a unique breed of crap fish and are called ‘GarraRufa’. These fishes can effectively treat conditions like flaky skin or psoriasis as painlessly as possible. In addition to removing the dead skin cells, the fishes also release an enzyme that is said to be extremely soothing on the skin.

However relieving the thought (and the actual procedure) may be, the fear of being eaten alive by the fishes when you see them feasting on your body would always be lingering at the back of your mind. And this would be more than enough to make you jump out of the water if you so much as feel a prick!
