Dos and don’ts of traveling to Israel

traveling to Israel

Israel is a great place you can travel to. The modern infrastructure paired with delicious food and beautiful sights can make your days spend at this place delightful. The Middle East offers you great tourist spots and you can observe a merging of different cultures. The cities are posh and the streets are wide and gorgeous. There is no dearth of amusements or good eating places. Though very modern and upbeat, you may feel the cultural difference acutely. It is better to be prepared for the things that you will be coming across. A little guidance regarding things you should do and things you shouldn’t do will help you in your journey.

Do’s:

1. Do use the local term for greeting: ‘Shalom’ is the word used in greeting by the people of Israel. They will appreciate your efforts if you greet them with this word and be more ready to show you around. Learning a little of the local language can help you mix more easily with the crowd and be more acceptable.

2. Do select your travel agent with care: Going to any faraway place requires you to have the best travel agent working for you. Do some research on your own and check out the hotels that your travel agent is booking for you so that you can fix problems before boarding the plane. Traveling companies with long standing reputation are your best bet. Don’t let them convince you for bad deals.

3. Do pay attention to your tour guides: You will learn a lot about the culture of the people you are visiting by listening to your tour guide. They can narrate the stories of the past and recount historical details. Listening to them will only enrich you as a traveler.

Don’ts:

1. No smoking on Saturdays: On the Saturdays the people of Israel observe a religious custom named ‘Shabbat’. On these days smoking is considered to be insulting to the religion they follow and may enrage puritan Jews. Do not smoke in places or on times when smoking is not allowed.

2. Don’t break dress codes: For visiting shrines or religious places you will need to cover yourself appropriately. Miniskirts and shorts are not allowed for men and women. You have to cover your heads for visiting religious places.

3. Don’t eat your native fast foods: Instead of burgers and French fries try the local foods in as many verities as you can. Try falafels and hummus and other delicacies.
