Brazil Shopping places, Shopping Centers, Shopping Malls – 10 Best Places for Shopping in Brazil

How can you not shop wherever you are in this world? Especially when you are on a vacation to a foreign land – the most likely thing you are going to do after scouring all the tourist spots is to shop.

Brazil has some of the hottest shopping destinations in all of South America. The variety of shopping spots in the country simultaneously exhibits chic modernity and traditionalism, both of which exist side by side.

  • Conjunto Nacional: When the Shopping Conjunto Nacional or the Joint National Mall, locally referred to as the CNB opened in 1971, it was the first shopping center of Brasilia and Brazil’s second mall. Lying adjacent to the Bus Station in Brasilia’s Central Zone, it is the Federal District’s largest mall and is widely known and respected because of its history and heritage. Today it is listed among Brazil’s top 30 shopping complexes.

  • Midway Mall: Midway Mall is not only Rio Grande do Norte’s largest shopping complex but also one of the biggest in Northeast Brazil. Located in Natal city, it is owned by the Guararapes who also own the Riachuelo group of department stores, and is a massive structure built over 230 acres.

  • Barra Shopping: Barra Shopping is located in Rio de Janeiro, smack in the middle of the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood. Found in 1981, today it has 580 stores and is one of the biggest malls in Brazil and actually held the title for quite some time in the past.

  • Daslu: Daslu is a high end multi-brand boutique store located in São Paulo. It is pretty much a holy spot for fashion designers in Brazil for it houses no less than sixty labels along with thirty store-in-stores, thereby attracting a variety of socialites including multi-millionaire soccer players, business bigwigs etc. Daslu is famous particularly for dealing in chic, niche couture.

  • Mercado de São José: The Market of Saint Joseph or Mercado de São José in Brazilian was found in 1871 and is the oldest building in Brazil to be fully made of pre-manufactured iron. There are around 550 shops in the market, small and big, selling fish, herbs, spices, crafts, groceries and cordel literature. Needless to say the place has historic value in Brazil.

  • ParkShopping: As far as the most important shopping complexes of Brasilia go, ParkShopping is one of the cream of the crop. It opened in November, 1983 and has around 350 stores that includes 10 anchor stores and 7 mega stores.

  • Centro Comercial Aricanduva: The largest shopping mall in Latin America happens to be this mall, the Aricanduva Shopping Center. One of the world’s largest, it houses around five hundred shops, fourteen film theaters and almost fifteen hundred parking spaces. It is located in Aricanduva Avenue in São Paulo.

  • Ver-o-peso market: This market is located in the Guajará Bay riverside at Belém, Brazil. The peculiar name is because of a tradition hailing from the colonial era; since the tax collector’s office was stationed there, which used to be known as “Casa do Haver-o-peso”.

  • Norte Shopping: At present, this is the largest shopping center of Rio De Janeiro and has recently become the second largest shopping center of Brazil. Besides shops, it also has a medical center, a school, a college, an ice skating among other useful services.

  • BH Shopping: BH Shopping was Belo Horizonte’s first shopping center. Though compared to the others in the list, it is relatively small, but over the years has earned itself a trusted and regular customer and fanbase.
