Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, beautiful beaches, surrounded with bush clad hills, a few hidden volcanoes and what can be more interesting? With many different cultures choosing to call Auckland home. Such diversity makes for an eclectic and exciting city in which to live. If you are visiting Auckland or planning to go on a vacation there could not be a better place to relax and enjoy the serenity of nature and here is a list of the top 10 things you should do when you get there.

1. Waiheke Island

You can relax on white sand beaches, meet artisans and partake of the local vino. It is a known fact that Waiheke Island is always a few degrees warmer than the mainland.

2. Sky Tower

This iconic landmark is great for getting your bearings if you can’t find your way and are lost someplace in Auckland. To get a beautiful view the surrounding dine up the top in Orbit Revolving Restaurant.

3. Devonport

Victorian era cottages, old pubs and specialty shops make Devonport a tiny North Shore treasure. The adventurers and explorers here is where you can bring a torch and explore the WWII tunnels at north head close by. Must have fish and chips on Cheltenham Beach.

4. La Cigale farmers market

French Market and shop.
For a bit of French culture in the weekend then head to La Cigale farmers market at the bottom of Parnell. Get some cheese and sip in some good coffee. Not to miss stopping by the Newmarket for a baguette and wine. The French are so friendly and well mannered.

5. Karangahape Road

For the party animals this street manages to condense all that is quirky and off-beat about Auckland. Whether you are straight, gay, transsexual (and even in between), love vintage clothing and dark cavernous wine bars this is where you head to.

6. The Viaduct

Auckland won the America’s Cup back in the 90’s. The boats are still there even though the cup isn’t, along with some great restaurants and clubs for the Elite and sophisticates this is the place.

7. Kingsland

Kingsland boasts retro, like it never went out of fashion. In a small street it packs in a surprising amount of cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs.

8. Parnell

It is one of Auckland’s oldest areas, Parnell the lush grounds of the Domain to relax and chill out in.

9. Okahu Bay to Mission Bay

If you are honeymooners or a couple just a few of hours then stroll the beautiful sea walk round to Mission Bay from Okahu Bay. You can rent a bike too; it is an easy, flat ride all the way.

10. Climbing Volcanoes

The one we love the most is Rangitoto. You can’t miss it; it’s the large tree covered one smack bang in the middle of the Hauraki Gulf. If you need a closer view we recommend climbing it, or if you’re feeling indolent then there is a shuttle.
