In America there are many posh and popular cities but some of them are not just attractive, beautiful or expensive, they are also elegant and distinguished. According to the cost of living index published this year by the Council for Community and Economic Research, the residents of Manhattan have to pay double of the national average as living costs. Better facilities and luxury always come with a big price tag and to be accepted, you must know the right etiquette. Following is a list of US cities that are most expensive, stylish and elite.

1. New York

When we think of New York the first city name that comes to our mind is of course Manhattan. The posh and famous Manhattan is also the most expensive borough of New York, closely followed by two other boroughs, Brooklyn and Queens. The living cost index of Manhattan is a steep 225.4, which is almost an exact double of the national average. It has always been at the top of the lists of most expensive cities of US. A moderate house will cost you around $1.3 million. If you want  to get a haircut then be ready to hand over $22.21 and for monthly rent of an apartment you will have to hand over around $3,902. Manhattan or the Big Apple ranks high on fashion statements and great clubs. It can also boast about the great theater it offers to the cultured populace. 2.  Honolulu, Hawaii

The scenic beauty of the luxurious beaches is reason enough to spend some extra bucks on living here. Honolulu is one of the most gorgeous cities of the US and it is located on an island which makes it exotic. 3. San Francisco

5. Boston

7. Stamford, Conn

It is the seventh most posh city of US. It is located fairly near to Manhattan, only 30 miles in car. A home will cost around $569,411 and monthly rents for apartments can go up to $2011.

8. Orange County, California

With a cost of living index of 140.6, the Orange Country, California is another elite city. Though food costs less, the price of real estate is pretty steep.

9. Minneapolis
