Wilpattu National Park Sri Lanka

Wilpattu National park is located on an island, Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is a land of beautiful natural lakes, and water basins. It is located on a dry grassland approx 30 km west of Anuradhapura. The park covers an area of 131,693 hectares and ranges around 152m above sea level on average.

Wilpattu National park is an oldest park in the country and features with more than 55 lakes and water tanks. The park is renowned for its leopard, elephant, and crocodile population. It receives an annual rainfall around 1000mm and an annual temperature of the region ranges from 25⁰C to 30⁰C.

It houses a wide variety of animals, birds, and reptiles. Wilpattu National park shelters more than 30 mammal species and people can spot animals like water buffalo, sloth bear, spotted deer, mouse, and mongoose. Visitors can also discover many species of owl, gulls, eagles, terns, and kites.

It is a popular eco tourism destination where people can spend quality time in the lap of nature. The park offers safari camp, which is an opportunity to explore the bountiful wildlife and pristine surroundings.
