Trekking Tips

If you are planning a trekking trip for the first time, and are still not sure as to how to go about the ropes, here are the simplest tips that are absolutely necessary for you to survive your trekking trip and come back in one piece.

First things first, always indulge in earlier research about the weather and climatic situations and fluctuations about the place that you are going to. You don’t want to end up being all wet and damp due to not knowing beforehand that the area was prone to severe rainfall. Secondly, one needs to keep in mind that while trekking, man’s best friend is his equipment, so be precise and accurate when it comes to this point. Always have with you a lighter, a Swiss Army knife, some length of rope and water with you, at any and at all times. These may prove to be the difference between survival and “missing” when it comes to emergency situations. It is also advisable to keep a light blanket with you, just in case the temperature suddenly decides to fall, which is not perfectly uncommon in trekking regions. As a substitute for a blanket, you may also keep a sleeping bag, which unlike a blanket is an absolute necessity, if you are going to sleep in rough and external conditions.

Now, comes the point of navigation. Do carry a topographical map with you of the region and make yourself literate as to the operation and handling of the map. And, like partners in crime, you need a magnetic compass, to complement the map. Forget these two, and you are in no man’s land.

The final thing that comes to be note is your clothing. Always wear full sleeved jackets or shirts, whichever be your preference, and full length trousers. Mind the full length, if you want to escape thorn pricks and insect bites. Also cover your neck and other parts, so as to protect them from external agents. Lastly, comes the matter of the shoe. Shoes are what will carry you through every cragged rock and crevice. Thus, wear a shoe a half size bigger so as to allow for flexibility as well as comfort. Also, wear woollen socks and not synthetic ones. Food must be carried that is high on carbohydrates and medicines too. DO all these, and finally you are ready to get out into the world. Happy hiking!!
