Thenmala is a small village located on the foothills of the Western Ghats Mountains approximately 72 kilometers from Thiruvanthapuram, the capital of the Indian state of Kerala. Thenmala wildlife resource is the first of all ecotourism destinations planned in India. Thenmala is the amalgamation of two words ‘Then’ and ‘mala’ meaning honey and foothills in the local language. As the name suggests, the honey so collected from the Thenmala hills is of high quality and medicinal value.

The Thenmala Wildlife project is in and around the famous Shenduruney Wildlife sanctuary with the contributions of various departments like Forest, Irrigation and Tourism. Thenmala ecotourism has well trained staff that provides you with information and guidance making your visit here an epitome of fun, adventure, leisure and learning.  The entire spatial arrangement done by dividing it into three zones namely, Cultural zone, Leisure zone and Adventure zone makes this destination all the more popular.

Cultural zone: In the cultural zone, one can indulge totally into the typical Kerala style of arts. Right from enjoying the traditional Kerala delicacies to musical dancing fountain, this zone has it all to take by awe.

Leisure Zone: The main attraction of the Leisure walk is the Boardwalk leading to the dam. The most enticing factor here for children is the Sway Bridge and you can enjoy a walk by the Sculpture garden made on the theme of ‘Man and Nature.’

Adventure zone: This is quite a thrilling experience as the elevated walkway takes you through the canopy of trees and over the rocky terrain bringing you close to the different levels of height. Mountain biking, rock climbing and river crossing are the major attractions of the place.
