Riga Zoo

Inaugurated on 14 October 1912, Riga Zoo is an exotic tourist destination of Riga, Latvia visited by more than 200,000 tourists annually.

Located over the area of 41 acres, Riga Zoo is a house to 4000 animals of 500 species. Riga Zoo aims at conserving and protecting biodiversity along with it inspiring society to understand the importance f nature and preserving wildlife. The zoo focuses on promoting conservation of wildlife by educating people about no hunting and trading of animal.

Riga Zoo runs many research projects and conservation efforts in order to save animals life like monitoring of owl autumn migration that focuses on collecting information regarding species of owl and other birds. On the other vulture breeding projects works for reintroducing some extent species of vultures that includes white tale eagles, barn owls, Eurasian eagle owls and lesser-spotted eagles.

Some other projects are reintroduction of European tree frog in Latvia, research for lesser-spotted eagle behavior traits and the entomology research. Wildlife in the Zoo features various species of mammals, fishes, birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and others.

The zoo conducts regular exhibitions, shows and events for the entertainment of kids as well as adults. You can see wide variety of wildlife starting from a small insect to the big animals in the Riga zoo that makes it worth visiting and exploring.
