Pendjari National Park

Located in the northwestern parts of Benin, Pendjari National Park is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country. It is a biosphere reserve, which lies on the border of Burkina Faso. The Pendjari National Park is the part of WAP complex (W-Arli-Pendjari), which is a protected area in Niger, Benin and Burkina Faso. The park covers a total area of 2755 square kilometers.

The national park derives its name from the Pendjari River, and is popular for the abundance of birds with more than 300 different species finding safe haven here. UNESCO has marked the national park as a World Heritage Site in March 2009.

The park offers many tourist attractions and is best recommended for nature and animal lovers. The Pendjari National Park is known for its huge wildlife and some of the species that can be found here are hippopotamuses, Buffalos, antelopes, elephants, Monkeys, lions and many more. This park has verities of bird species such as Abdim’s Stork, Saddle-billed Stork, European White Stork, The African Fish Eagle, Pel’s Fishing-owl, Pallid Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Lappet-faced Vulture Fox Kestrel, African Swallow-tailed Kite and so on.

Incredible panoramic view and significant wildlife makes the Pendjari National Park one of the most visited tourist attractions of Benin.
