Loango National Park

Loango National Park

Located in the coastal plain of Gabon, Loango National Park is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country. The true jewel of Africa’s western coast, the park lies between the Nkomi and Ndogo Lagoons and covers a total area of 1,550 square kilometers.

It is one of the 13 national parks created in 2002 by Gabon’s President Omar Bongo Ondimba. The park Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), performs different functions, which include research work, imparting education and maintaining projects in the area. There are a few villages within the boundaries of the park and they make living by fishing or hunting.

The Loango National Park features enormous verities of flora and fauna. Gabon is home to gorillas, over 600 species of birds and more than 200 mammal species. Others include the smaller forest elephant, red forest buffalo, hippos, chimpanzees, red forest buffalo, red river hogs, crocodiles, sitatunga and so on.

Tourism industry and conservation of biodiversity go hand in hand in Loango National Park to promote it as a tourist destination as well as conserve the biodiversity. The place is ideal destination for nature lovers and animal lovers.
