Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania

Lake Manyara National Park is located in Karatu, Tanzania covering the Arusha and Manyara region. The park is maintained and preserved by the Tanzania National Parks Authority. The park consists of an area of 330 square kilometers comprising of forest, arid land and Soda Lake that covers 200 square kilometers of area. Flamingoes inhabit the lake and during the wet season they settle in flocks at the edges of the lake. The park consists of more than 400 species of birds and many of them stay in the park throughout the year due to which the park is a famous site for bird watching.

Apart from this, the park is house to various animals such as blue monkeys, elephants, dik-dik, gazelle, hippo, giraffe, impala, lions and Leopards that can been throughout the year. There is a pond named Hippo Pond that lies at one end of the park at which hippos can be observed from a safe distance. The park is accessible from Babati, the capital of Manyara region, and lies very close to Tarangire National Park. The park can be reached by air from Lake Manyara Airport located at the top of the rift wall.
