Chitwan National Park is a world heritage site and contains a Ramsar site- Beeshazari Tal in its buffer zone. Chitwan Nation Park is one of the best known tourist destinations in Nepal. There are several lodges inside the park for a comfortable visit to the place. It covers an area of 932 kilometer square and is extremely rich in its flora and fauna. The Park is host to almost 700 species of wildlife not yet fully surveyed species of butterfly, moth and insects. It is home to 17 snake species, starred tortoise, monitor lizards apart from King cobra, and rock Python.

In the north and the west of the protected area Narayani- Rapti, river system is home to gharials, fish and mugger crocodiles. The Chitwan national park conserves almost 43 species of mammals. The king of the jungle, Bengal tigers and Leopards can be seen at the periphery of the park co-existing with the tigers. Chitwan national park has the highest population density of sloth bears, Bengal foxes, spotted linsangs, honey badgers, golden jackals, jungle cats, Asian palm civets and yellow-throated martens.

The Park hosts almost 543 species of birds. Black chinned yuhina, a pair of Gould’s sunbird, a pair of blossom headed parakeet and slaty-breasted rail are the uncommon winter visitors. Chitwan National park is one of the premier draw cards in Nepal. The main comforts include elephant and jeep safaris, rafting tours and guided jungle walks. The pioneer safari being Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge and has been serving visitors since 1972.

The boat trip on the Narayani River is another main attraction of the place that offers a dynamic escapade of Nepal’s Ecotourism. Chitwan national park has seen ever-increasing visitors with time that has made its popularity on a high making it count amongst most visited places in the world.
