British Columbia Mainland Coastal Forest, Canada

British Columbia Mainland Coastal Forests are located in the Pacific coast of North America. The areas includes in this region are Kitmat and Pacific ranges.  A part of the eco regions include the Olympic Mountains lying on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. The landscape of the eco region comprises of a mix of coastal lowlands having steep valleys, fjords and inlets. The climate prevailing in the regions is drier. The vegetation cover consists of distinct types of vegetation namely the forest of the coastal plains that are influenced by the western hemlock, western red cedar, amabilis fir, yellow cedar, alpine tundra, lichen covered rocks, and mountain forest on hemlock.

The fauna of the region consists of Kermode bear, grizzly bear, migratory woodland caribou, grey wolf, Red fox, mountain goat, American Mink, marten, North American River otter, American Beaver, Snowshoe Hare, and black tailed deer. Birds species found are Blue Grouse and Spotted Owl. The region is well preserved and has been conserved by the parks of British Columbia like Kilopte Heritage Conservancy Protected Area, Golden Eras National Park and Swan Lake National Park. Various activities like hiking, trekking, bird watching and mountain climbing are available.
