Cocos Island

An island is a piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. The way human population has exploded; the day is not far when people will have to fight among themselves to own a land or a house. However, there are a lot of islands on earth that can be considered as a place to dwell in. Though those islands have been abandoned or deserted, they offer you with exceptional natural beauty to cherish and relax. Many of the rich people have owned islands to reside there in peace after retirement. Population might spread to those uninhabited islands also in a few years. However, for the time being, there is no population in those beautiful places and they can be considered as places to visit and relax.

Auckland Islands

Auckland Islands are located in the New Zealand sub-Antarctic islands. This island is stretched across an area of 625 square kilometers between the latitudes 50° 30′ and 50° 55′ S and longitudes 165° 50′ and 166° 20′. This island looks beautiful for its geographical structure which includes steep cliffs and rugged terrain, which rises to over 600 meters. It is believed from the historical remnants that Polynesian voyagers first discovered the Auckland Islands. The traces of Polynesian settlements navigate the history of the islands to 13th century. The islands were rediscovered in 1806 by a whaling vessel, who found them deserted. The island had been tried to be inhabited by a small party of Māori and their Moriori slaves from the Chatham Islands. However, they did not succeed in doing so.

Mu Ko Ang Thong

Mu Ko Ang Thong is a group of about 40 islands and it is located in the gulf of Thailand. It is spread across an area of 102 km2 out of which only 18 km2 are land. The name of the islands can be referred to as bowl of gold in English. The island is made of mostly limestone and covered with tropical forest. The specialty of this island lies in rise of the islands from the sea as dramatic rock cliffs and bizarre rock formations. The other attractions are the white sand beaches and shallow coral gardens. This island is also declared as a national park in Thailand.

Ball’s Pyramid

The Ball’s Pyramid is an erosional remnant of a shield volcano and caldera. The Ball’s Pyramid is part of the Lord Howe Island Marine Park in Australia. It is believed to be formed 7 million years ago. This is the tallest volcanic stack in the world with a measurement of 1,100 meters in length and 300 meters in width. It was discovered by Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird Ball in 1788. It also consists of many satellite islets such as observatory Rock and Wheatsheaf Islet that lie about 800 meters west-northwest and west-southwest respectively.

Cocos Island is located offshore of Costa Rica. It is situated in the Pacific Ocean at around 550 km from the Pacific shore of Costa Rica. Cocos Island is spread across an area 23.85 km² and it has a perimeter of about 23.3 km. The island looks rectangular in shape. This island is an oceanic island of both volcanic and tectonic nature. This island is a point of attraction for the scuba divers as it has a population of Hammerhead sharks, rays, dolphins and other large marine species. It is also declared as one of the national parks of Costa Rica.

Phoenix Islands

Phoenix Islands are located the central Pacific Ocean east of the Gilbert Islands and west of the Line Islands. It comprises eight atolls and two submerged coral reefs. Around 120 species of coral and more than 500 species of fish dwell in the habitat provided by these islands. Phoenix Islands are the world’s largest marine protected area with an area of 410,500 square kilometers.

Mamanuca Islands

Mamanuca Islands are a group of volcanic islets located to the west of Nadi and to the south of the Yasawa Islands. These islands comprise of about 20 islands out of which seven are covered by Pacific Ocean. These islands are very popular travel destination. These islands are located in Fiji. Mamannuca Islands are famous for crystal clear waters palm fringed sandy beaches and live coral reefs.

Aldabra Islands

Aldabra is located in the Aldabra Group of islands in the Indian Ocean and this is the part of the Outer Islands of the Seychelles. It is also the world’s second largest coral atoll. Aldabra is extremely isolated and deserted so untouched yet. This island is quite popular for its exceptional Aldabra Giant Tortoise and it is also the world’s largest population of this reptile. There are our islets around a large shallow lagoon encircled by fringing coral reef in Aldabra. Aldabra has also been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
