Do’s and don’ts of traveling with your dog

You cannot leave them behind and want to take them along with you in your trip but dogs are just like children and need a lot of your attention. Traveling with dogs can be tricky and even difficult if you have not done the same before. It is best to take the right precautions and safety measures so that your beloved pet can travel in comfort. Pets are bound to some eating and resting habits just like toddlers and they will fall sick if their habits are not maintained with care. Treat your dogs like you treat small kids because they are totally dependent on you for their food, accommodation and other necessities. We hope that the following guidelines will help you to counter the challenges of traveling with dogs.

 

Do’s

1. Make prior plans and arrangements

Making a plan for traveling is definitely important if you are traveling with your dog.  Their requirements are not really different from those of children. They need a time out for respond to nature calls and get some stretching done. Without prior planning and arrangements you may have to face harassment or may not enjoy the trip at all.

2. Expect the unexpected

While traveling with dogs you have to be extra cautious. A lot of things can go totally wrong. Keep enough dog food packed and make sure that your pet gets right amount of water or else it might get dehydrated. Keep extra potty pads handy for your dogs and carry their favorite playthings and food bowl. Also carry some emergency medicines and the medical reports of your dog with you.

3. Provide entertainment

It is actually better to travel with both your dog and kid at once, if your kid is above 8. Kids and dogs provide companionship to each other and you don’t always have to look for ways of entertaining them. Carry the toys that your pup loves and secure them with seat belts if necessary.

Traveling with dogs can be hectic and even frustrating. They will get excited with the change of place and the journey and will not listen to all you say. Be prepared to face a little drooling and disciplinary anarchy.

Online hotel and activity booking has given the freedom to check out if your dog can stay and play with your or not. Book hotels where both of you can have a nice vacation. Get some grooming done before taking your pet on a flight.
