Asa Wright Nature Centre

About: Asa Wright Nature Centre

The Asa Wright Nature Centre is a nature resort and scientific station in the Arima Valley of the Northern Range in Trinidad and Tobago. The resort is home to various species of wildlife, including 97 native mammals, 400 birds, 55 reptiles, 25 amphibians, 617 butterflies, and over 2,200 species of flowering plants. Located at 1200 feet in the mountains of the Northern Range, the Asa Wright Nature Centre is an excellent nature history destination for students of tropical ecology and is of particular interest to birdwatchers. The nearest town is Arima, at a distance of seven miles.

The forests comprise nearly 1,500 acres of land in the Arima and Aripo Valleys of the Northern Range. The Centre’s main facilities are located on a former cocoa-coffee-citrus plantation, previously known as the Spring Hill Estate. The Estate is surrounded by an impressive rainforest, where some trees have banded together in a canopy of 100-150 feet. The property has a central lodge catering to birding tour groups, a research station for biologists and a series of hiking trails. Guided tours can be organized for Day visitors; reservation should be made at least 24 hours in advance.
