The biggest regret of a son

Everything was good until the son had got married but soon after that things started changing. The son would come in the evening and get inside his room without saying a word to his father. Father used to feel bad about it. He had made so many sacrifices for the sake of his son who was now taking him for granted. One day he even heard his son talking about shifting him to an old age home. The old man was heartbroken and devastated but he had nowhere else to go. The father was also suffering from loss of memory something, which irritated his son and his family even more.

A few days later when both father and son were sitting in the living room the father looked at his son and asked, “Son, what is the date today?”

The son replied in a harsh tone, “its 2nd March, dad.”

A few minutes later the father asked again, “What is the date today?”

The son gave the same answer and started reading the newspaper again. The father took a walk around and asked again. His son got irritated and said” its 2nd March dad. How many times do I need to tell you that its 2nd march today. Why are you making me sick?”

The father got embarrassed and left the room in a spur of a moment.

A few months later, the father got a heart attack and passed away. Soon after his death when the son went to his father’s room, he found his diary there. His father had written every little thing in his diary ever since his son was born. He turned over a few pages and read something that brought tears in his eyes. He took out a page and read it, which said, “My son is now three. Today he asked me the same thing almost thirty times and every time I answered his question, I gave him a peck on his cheek.”

He turned over the pages again and read the last entry. It said, “It is 25th March, my wife’s birthday who is not in this world now. I tried hard to remind my son but he was too busy reading a newspaper. He even yelled at his old man.”

The son had tears in his eyes. He wished he had realized his mistake when his father was alive but it was too late now.

It is important that we love and respect our parent regardless of who they behave. They love us unconditionally and make sacrifices to give us a good life. If not anything else, you must make efforts to return the favor.
