The biggest lesson of her life

Helena thanked her daughter Nicole who gave her the biggest lessons of her life. Her daughter Nicole was eleven but she had tremendous ability to observe everything around her. Things that often go unnoticed used to inspire her. She was a bright student who would always get A’s on her scorecard and help her younger brother with his homework

One day Helena decided to go to the nearby store to buy grocery. Her daughter Nicole was excited as it gave her an opportunity to come out of the four walls of her house.

“Mom, did you make the list of things we need to buy,” Nicole asked.  She was always particular about such things something that made her even more adorable.

“Yes I have it in my wallet. I knew you would ask,” Helena replied.

They went to the store and bought every little thing on the list, which took them almost two hours. The moment they came out of the store Nicole put on a puppy face and asked,” Mom, do you think we can a grab bite?”

“Sure, you just took the words out of my mouth. That shows that we have a connection. We can go to the nearby restaurant and eat something,” Helena said as she got into the car.”

Nicole put the bags on the back seat and said, “Mom, I know a place where we can get good food and that too at a cheap price. We can save some money if we go there. Trust me the food is really delicious.”

“Honey, we have enough money. You don’t worry,” Helena said.

“Mom, you don’t understand. I know we have enough money but I have something else on my mind. Let us just go there. Please take right,” Nicole said as she instructed her mother to take the car in that direction.

They took their lunch at a small place where food was truly delicious. Helena paid the bill and looked at her daughter, “That saved us $20. I must tell you that you are going to be a good house maker. You really know how to save money even when you have enough. You can have your $20. What are you going to do with it?”

“Mom, there are so many people who still live on streets and have nothing to eat. They include small kids who do not get the opportunity to get educated. They live and eventually die on streets. I will buy something for those kids to eat,” she told her mother.

Helena did not believe her ears. She always wanted her kids to turn into nice human beings and today her daughter had made her proud.

She got up and gave her beautiful daughter a tight hug. She did not know that the money they had saved could bring a smile on a kid’s face or let him/her eat full stomach.

The price we pay to lead a luxurious life could actually give someone a reason to live or a hope for a better tomorrow. People like Nicole who do not hesitate to cut down their own expenses to provide food to unfortunate others count their own blessings.
