It was at around eight o’clock in the evening when Jasmine took the cash and headed towards her apartment. Usually her manager paid her salary by a check but as she needed money, she asked her manger to pay her in cash. She took the money, kept it in her wallet and started waiting for a cab. She could not afford to buy a car since her monthly expenses didn’t give her the luxury to do that. Mark who was her colleague came downstairs and asked, “Hey jasmine, I can give you a lift. I am going in the same direction.
Jasmine nodded her head and said, “No thanks, my brother is on his way.” She lied, as it was the only way to get rid of him. She could not stand him. Mark thought that he was the most handsome guy in the office. He would hit on every single girl in office. “No doubt, he was quite a good looking fellow but what makes him believe that good looks can get him close to any girl,” Jasmine said to herself. She was one of the quite ones, she needed someone who could respect her feeling and make her feel special. Mark was not her type anyways. She had tons of insecurities that had turned her into a thoughtful human being.
Ten minutes later, the cab arrived. She got into the cab and had a good look at the person who was sitting in the front seat. He had a look of a psychopath who could slit anyone’s throat in a minute. Jasmine thought of getting out of the cab but it was a stupid idea as it was already eight thirty. She took a deep breath and tried to divert her attention.
She was planning to buy a new laptop this month. She had done computer engineering but never had her own laptop. She was saving to send money to her family who were living in Florida. She had even consulted one of her colleagues regarding a second hand laptop. It could have saved her a good amount of money that would have been a great help.
The previous day when she had stepped into her office her phone had rung. Her mother told her that her father was not well and they needed money to pay his medical bills. Jasmine changed her plan to buy a laptop as she had always given the first preference to her family. It was the reason why she never got married. She knew that it would be impossible for her to support her family after getting married.
Finally, she noticed that she had reached her destination. She paid the bill and came out of the cab. She had hardly gone a few steps away when she noticed that the cab driver started running towards her. He had eyes of a monster and his muscular physique made him look even scarier. Jasmine turned around and started running towards her apartment. She knew that something was wrong with the cab driver. She though he was high. That moment jasmine cursed her fate. Had she taken lift from Mark, she would have reached home by now. Mark would have never done something of the sort. A few minutes later, Jasmine gathered the strength to look back as she could not run any more. The cab driver was nowhere. She took a sigh of relief and caught her breath back.
She had hardly moved an inch when she saw the cab driver standing right in front of her. She took no time to notice that he had her handbag with him. He gave her the handbag without saying a word. Jasmine got so embarrassed that she could not even utter up a word to say thank you. The words were right there on the tip of her tongue. She had a lot of money in her handbag, the money that she needed badly. She was speechless.
Just like Jasmine, there are times when we misunderstand people around us. We should never judge others without knowing their side of the story.
